UFO!
UFO!'s combination of advanced aural aggression and sci-fi imagery give his self-proclaimed 'Blade-Runner-Funk' style a potency that pushes forward the margins of drum & bass. A heady blend of hydraulic mayhem, intercepted alien communications and ghostly apparitions of human traffic rage over torrential breakbeats.
Born Ed Garro, UFO! boasts numerous releases on labels headquartered in both the U.S. and abroad--but is best known for his 1999 anthem "Enemy Infiltration" on Thermal. The song's string arrangement is so remarkable that producers from the respected U.K. label Trouble on Vinyl were inspired to use a sample for one of their own releases dubbed "Mission Control."
It's 2002, and UFO! makes history with his first full-length work of genius The Future is Listening. A year before the album was unleashed, URB, XLR8R and Knowledge each featured full-page articles in anticipation. Eighteen original genre-stretching songs detail the accessible experimentalism that make up UFO!'s vision. Ed explains, "To me, in drum & bass, you can only do so much until it becomes experimental and that's the fine line I'm trying to walk."
